Sinopse: O policial John Spartan (Silvester Stallone) é acusado de excesso de violência logo após prender o perigoso bandido Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snapes). Os dois acabam indo à mesma prisão, onde permanecerão congelados até o final de suas sentenças. Mas em 2032 Simon consegue escapar da cadeia, voltando a cometer crimes bárbaros. O único capaz de detê-lo é o próprio John.
